Overheard: 10 Things About McCain

Courtesy of my pal UConn Huskie, Some knowledge about Johnny “Sprinkles” McCain.
This is for my fellow Clinton-fatigued comrades out there who are thinking of defecting just in case “Annie Oakley” shoots herself a miracle superdelegate-driven coup d’etat: A list of 10 reasons why you may not want to vote for McCain in the GE:
1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has “evolved,” yet he’s continued to oppose key civil rights laws.
2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain “will make Cheney look like Gandhi.“
3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.
4. McCain opposes a woman’s right to choose. He said, “I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned.”
5. The Children’s Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children’s health care bill last year, then defended Bush’s veto of the bill.
6. He’s one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a “second job” and skip their vacations.
7. Many of McCain’s fellow Republican senators say he’s too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: “The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He’s erratic. He’s hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.”
8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.
9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his “spiritual guide,” Rod Parsley, believes America’s founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a “false religion.” McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God’s punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church “the Antichrist” and a “false cult.”
10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.
Huskie left me with one final thought:
I also hope that you understand that a vote for John McCain is a vote for continued suppression of civil liberties, favoritism towards the wealthy, and continued neo-con policies that do away with the American middle class.
Well, if I didn’t before, I do now. Thanks, UConn.
McCain and Clinton seem closer on issues than Clinton and Obama. If you were going to vote for Hillary, but Obama is the nominee, the McCain is the next best thing to Hillary.
The “10 things about McCain” list–
First, I don’t like McCain, but I will vote for him anyway.
Second, the “10 things” are all bogus. Talk about taking things out of context. How about a list of “1,000,000 reasons not to vote for Obama/Hillary”? If “10″ is all you got on McCain, I’ll take ‘em any day of the week over the two socialists running.
I hope the war continues until we win. I hope we build bases there, like we did Europe, and hold them for 100+ years. I believe woman DO have a choice. What is that choice? Close your friggin legs. Using abortion for birth control is immoral, disgusting, and heck, we don’t even do that to animals.
“Fellow republicans say he’s too hot headed.” Yeah, all 3 of them.
Foreclosing? Yeah, get a friggin job. You were a MORON for signing an ARM anyway. Serves you right. If you were stupid enough to sign an ARM, you deserve everything and anything you get.
Owning a house IS NOT THE AMERICAN DREAM. No one “owns” a house, the banks own them. Get real.
Finally… John Hagee is McCains preacher. You know what, I’d take him over Obama’s communist anti-American, racist filled preacher any day.
So, Not God Bless WordPress, no, God Damn WordPress… it’s in the bible!
Hahahhaa
I don’t think there are just “10″ reasons to not vote for McCain, as I’d probably run out of bandwidth trying to list all of them.
My parents own their house, after paying off of their 20 year mortgage.
I’d also disagree with the notion that Wright is a communist. After all, he was USMC for 6 years. But if you’re condemning him based on the YouTube comments — that’s probably analogous to this “top 10″ list of why not to vote for McCain, so fair play to you.
